James Hutchinson and Irene Hutchinson
These were my grandparents on my father’s side. They lived in Beckley, WV. My sister and I moved with our parents to Beckley when we were about four years old. We were lucky enough to have our grandparents to be with us when we needed them. They lived close enough that when one of us was sick, they could pick us up. We both used to tap dance and perform ballet, so they would go to the recitals. We also would perform The Nutcracker and they never missed watching us perform in that every year. We never felt like anything was too important to them. Our parents were nurses at the time and they sometimes had to work night shifts. We would stay at their house and watch The Lawrence Welk Show after eating dinner in front of the television. They would dance with us to the different songs on the show and we always loved dancing with them. My grandpa was the first to die unfortunately. He died on 12/07/1994. He never got to see me graduate from high school which I regret and I miss him much. My grandma died on 10/31/2015. She lived a long life and I regret thinking and saying things about her. I loved her so much. I will always love them. I know one day I will see them again and I hope that I will make them proud.
Shadow, Dixie, Lexi, and Trini
These are my dogs that have passed away…well they were more than dogs. Shadow, the black dog, was the first dog we ever had in Beckley. She was also the first dog we started giving middle names to. Her full name was Shadow Sabrina Hutchinson. My mom got her from a patient she saw when she was working home health. My dad told us that we were not going to keep her. Well you can guess what happened. My mom found him in the rocking chair asleep and holding her. 🙂 She was a mixed breed, part Labrador and part bird dog. She lived about 15-16 years. She was cremated in SC. Unfortunately, we had to put her down because she couldn’t walk any longer. She did live a long and happy life and she was loved by all.
Dixie and Lexi were sisters. They were a mix between Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier. Their full names were Dixie Jubilee and Lexi Lee Hutchinson. Dixie looked more like the Yorkshire Terrier while Lexi looked more like the Maltese. Lexi had to be put down around 8 years old. She was snapping and biting at the other dogs we had. We found out that she had a brain tumor. It was very sad for us. We had her cremated and have her ashes. Dixie lived a long and happy life. She died naturally in my parents bed in 2013. She was buried in my Sister’s and Brother-in-law’s backyard.
Trini did not start life off happily. She was a full Yorkshire Terrier. Her full name was Trini Belle Hutchinson. We got her from a Small Breed Rescue in Kentucky. She was abused for the first two years in her life. When we got her she was afraid of my father. After a year, she would start sleeping on the bed and in his armpit. 🙂 Even after that, if the sun was shining in her eyes and she couldn’t get a good look at my dad, she would bark and he would have to calm her down with his voice. She had many health problems and unfortunately we had to put her down on 11/19/2016. She was about 12 years old and lived a very happy life with us. We will never forget our time with her.
